A chignon is a knot or twist of hair arranged on the back of a woman’s head. Chignons are generally achieved by pinning the hair into a knot at the nape of the neck or at the back of the head and usually secured with accessories (i.e. barrettes, hairpins, hair sticks, hair nets, elastic bands, and even pencils).
There are many different variations of the chignon style. Some are formal with more precise shaping. And some are informal with loose shaping and strands of hair left to fall around the face and the back of the neck.
The formal chignon gives women a classic and chic appearance. It is a very elegant hairstyle. So, it is great for work and formal events like cocktail parties, reception dinners, balls, weddings, and society luncheons.
In contrast, the informal chignon tends to soften facial features while creating a romantic and often bohemian feel. This style is great for every day casual outings; and works wonderfully with floral and bohemian dresses.
Today, we will be posting three videos on how to create formal chignons. It is something every lady should know how to do.
