SOTHEBY’S TO AUCTION HIS HIGHNESS SHEIKH AL THANI’S ART COLLECTION IN PARIS, 2026 | BALISSANDE FINISHING SCHOOL

In the art community, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani is known as one of the most distinctive collectors of his generation. For decades, he collected exceptional works of art for his hôtel particulier on Avenue Floquet in Paris… in the heart of the prestigious 7th arrondissement, overlooking the Eiffel Tower. In collaboration with the legendary French decorator Alberto Pinto, Sheikh Hamad created a sumptuous home, merging architecture, decoration, and European cultural history… where guests could find Art Deco portraits a few steps away from Classical portraits of Queen Elizabeth I of United Kingdom and King Louis XVIII of France; French “Grand Siècle” settees a few steps away from Art Deco tables; mahogany wood tables a few steps away from beige marble tables…

Sheikh Hamad, alongside Alberto Pinto, designed a home that masterfully balanced classical opulence with sleek 20th-century modernism. And starting tomorrow, art lovers will be given the opportunity to step inside this unique world of dual creativity.

From October 31st to November 9th, Sotheby’s Paris will be hosting a series of events, titled: Une demeure princière, La résidence de son Altesse Cheikh Hamad Bin Abdullah Al Thani.

From October 31st to November 4th, Sotheby’s Paris will be exhibiting the collection in fully designed room mock-ups, which will span across both the 76 and 83 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré buildings. They have commissioned two of the world’s most prestigious interior masterminds — Jacques Garcia and Chahan Minassian — to recreate the exact atmosphere of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani’s private residence for the public to view. This will provide visitors a rare opportunity to see the objects that span more than a century of evolution in European taste, chosen by Qatar royalty, in a distinct architectural identity.

From November 4th to 9th, Sotheby’s Paris will open the exhibition to auction in a 5-part series — Part I: Vente du Soir, Part II: Kunstkammer, Part III: L’écrin Art Déco, Part IV: Vente du Jour, and Part V: Vente en Ligne. The first four Parts will consist of live auctions hosted in their headquarters. The fifth Part will consist of auctions hosted online.

This multi-day event will present more than 1,400 works of art, including Old Masters paintings, Art Deco furniture, Sèvres porcelain dining service sets, German silver nefs, marble tables and columns, chandeliers, lamps, figurines, busts, silver plates, and books.
